Lake City Victoria Chapter No. 205 Order of the Eastern Star is an active organization of almost 150 sisters and brothers. In New York State women are eligible to join when they become 18 years of age. Membership is acquired either by being a relative of a Master Mason or by being sponsored by a Master Mason who is also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES).
Lake City Chapter No. 352 OES was founded and constituted in 1905. The chapter celebrated its 100th birthday in 2005. The following year Victoria Chapter No. 205, Mexico, merged with Lake City to become Lake City Victoria No. 205.
The sisters of the chapter make money for various projects by hosting dinners for the Masons several times a month. Last year the number approximated 40, some prepared on succeeding evenings. Putting on dinners is hard work but the women always have a good time in each other’s company.
The chapter has an active Past Matrons’ Association. The group meets periodically through the year, provides the refreshments for the district deputy’s official visit and for the annual installation of officers. The Past Matrons’ Association buys pens for the outgoing matron and patron to use when they sign the Bible. This past Christmas, the group did a community project for Safe House, with which the chapter and district have been associated for several years. Having learned from RW Eileen Esford, the chapter’s liaison with Safe House, that teenagers living there were often overlooked at Christmas, the association decided to fill shoeboxes with items adolescent boys and girls need and desire. Among the gifts were shaving cream, razors, scarves, candy, hats, nail polish, and deodorant. Several past matrons had so much fun filling a box that they decided to put together a second one.
In 2010 the chapter was honored when RW Rita DeLong, the worthy matron, was awarded the Grand Matron’s Achievement Medal at Grand Chapter.
Lake City Victoria Chapter meets on the second and fourth Fridays of the month in March, April, May, September, October, and November. The current Worthy Matron is RW Earline J. Wood. The secretary is RW Natalie J. Woodall. Questions concerning membership may be directed to her at nwoodall@twcny.rr.com.
